I’m now officially a Sophomore at Union College - an institution that I wasn’t sure I’d be staying at, mind you. As the year drew on, I, for some strange reason, began to live a life I never saw coming.
Union College is not for everybody. We started the year close to 800, and finished the year at 600. We will probably start next year with substantially less. Let’s face it; it’s expensive, it’s in the middle of nowhere, it’s just not everyone’s cup of tea.
My cup started brewing before Christmas.
I decided to rush an organization on campus - Student Ambassadors. I survived rush week and got accepted with flying colors. 42 rushed, 19 were accepted. My life started it’s trek uphill.
I began to think, “I’m not sure if I can leave now, I’m involved…”
But apparently, not involved enough. Already being a scholarship bowler for the college now a student ambassador, it seemed like something was still missing; but it wasn’t a homesickness.
Nearing the end of the year, new opportunities arose for deeper involvement. Peer Mentors, Campus Employment, etc.
Needless to say, I am now a Bowler, Student Ambassador, Peer Mentor, Campus Activities Board Student Assistant, and I have a part time job in the Admissions office this Summer.
Still, though. Something was missing.
So my final decision was to move out of the house. I will be moving in to my new place at the end of this month, and my best friend and fellow Ambassador Neil Jones will be joining me in August.
My life is pretty exciting (And by exciting, I of course mean way too busy and pretty boring) and I can only imagine next year will open many more doors of opportunity for me.
Things happen so other things can take it’s place. I had to give up something dear to me to make room for “Life,” and so far, it’s treating me fairly.
If, by chance, you are still reading at this point, I commend you. I don’t use Tumblr much anymore, but for the people who pay attention, you are what keeps me motivated to go on.
